I absolutely love the coat Lady Mary is wearing in this look! After seeing all that velvet and fur that’s been hitting all the runways lately, I want to grab that blue, velvety beauty for ma-self!
So, this is how I envision Lady Mary wearing her outfit now….
The gorgeous Alberta Ferretti coat has lovely, velvet detailing, and the grey fur just takes this simple, classic look to a very “Lady Mary” level. Although the look is simple, the Chanel earrings, Louboutin pumps, and Burberry gloves are anything but…. divine. Nothing less would suit our Lady M.
I love gazing at the gorgeous fashion that leisurely strolls the halls and grounds of Downton, but even more so, I love to pause and peer closely at what adorns those lovely, graceful heads. Today, I’m giving you an up-close peek at some stunning Downton hair accessories, and have shopped some similar, modern-day trinkets for your hair that can translate to not only bridal and evening wear, but also a few day-time pieces, as well! I also included a great hair tutorial on how to achieve those perfect, Downton finger waves, at the very end (I want to try a version of this, myself!).
If you’re looking for some simple, fun hairspiration to liven-up these dreary winter months, this post is a fab place to start…..
The barrette, and headband are some beautiful pieces to add to a simple evening outfit (think black jumpsuit, or LBD). If you’re feeling bold and whimsical, try the netted headband with a layered, sweater look, or even go completely “equestrian” with a classic oxford shirt, blazer, and skinny jeans.
While the Edith-inspired headband and barrette should be reserved for something more romantic, the head-wrap can brighten a simple, casual look, such as a tee + cardi or blazer, paired with jeans and flats.
I love Lady Rose! She’s so playful with her fashion, and seems game to try anything. The evening head pieces are stunning, and would add an ultra glam aspect to any evening outfit. That said, I would just be sure to keep the outfit simple, and classic, so as not to overdose on glam (is that possible?). The headbands would be really fun to add to a very casual “boho” look. Think peasant blouse + boyfriend jeans + tennies, or a tank with a long, patterned cardi + skinny jeans (try to stay away from flare jeans; with everything else going on, they can take you to “70s costume” rullll fast).
Ah, the Queen of Downton! Tiaras certainly suit her, and I found a couple that might suit the tiara-lovers out there :) You definitely have to possess a certain personality to carry them off (or be married to a lord, or prince, or something), but I salute any that have the confidence to sport them. I also included wave clips to help you achieve those perfect, Cora finger-waves. Check out this video tutorial, that can help you create this look on your own!
Hope you enjoyed the Hairspiration! Happy Downton Day to you!
It’s Downton Abbey aaaand Golden Globes night!!! So thankful for DVR.
Well, Ms. Michelle Dockery has been very busy these last, few “pre-Globes” days in Hollywood. She recently attended a luncheon sponsored by jewelry brand, LoveGold, where she wore an elegant, color-blocked dress by Barbara Casasola. I’m not in love with the color, but the lines and fit of the dress are absolutely exquisite. Her look is accented with gold David Yurman jewelry, and black-and-gold pumps. It is a lot of black and gold…. but she could honestly wear a muumuu, and still look beautiful. All told, she looks striking – despite the fashion factors that, technically, should really not add up to this word.
From a verrry gold LoveGold luncheon, Michelle trotted off to the Audi Golden Globes Kick Off Party. Michelle’s Altuzarra Pre-fall 2014 dress is very classic in silhouette, yet is comprised of a rather unexpected fabric choice of bold, differing plaid. Again, I can’t say I love the pattern/color combo (especially for January?), but the lines and fit are superb on her! Her outfit makes me want to look at it several times, so her look is quite successful in the interest category (which is far better than being boring, in my book)! It grows on me each time I look at it – as if I’m taking tiny sips of its plaid love potion.
In the Access Hollywood video, below, you can hear Michelle chat about this Altuzarra dress, as well as her dress for the Golden Globes, her “Funny or Die” spoof video with Michael Chiklis, and her thoughts on what will happen next to Lady Mary. It’s a great little interview! Just click here, or on the image to view it:
So much to look forward to this evening!! Have a cozy, snuggly night-in, and we’ll chat tomorrow about our fave (and least fave) Golden Globes looks :)
Is anyone else super excited for the Downton Abbey premiere tonight?? I cannot waaaait! If the recent Christmas special is any indicator as to the level of fashion we can anticipate seeing this season, I am beyond thrilled. Intricate beading, dazzling jewels, and silky, swishy roaring 20s gowns and frocks? Um, yes, please! If you missed the special, never fear; here is one gorgeous fashion peek (you’re welcome):
Told ya. Gorge. To prove that this exquisite eye candy seems to continue throughout the coming season, here are a few “sneak peek” photos from season 4:
