For me, the word “crop top” conjures up tacky images of tiny bits of spandex, paired with verrrry low hip-huggers, Sporty Spice, and a fresh-faced Britney Spears (and now all sorts of images are flooding my mind – thanks, Britney). I mean, Sporty Spice was fun, butttt…. those little fashion trend blips were skank.ky. With a capital Skank. So, fast forward to the present-day trend of fresh crop tops, and it’s safe to say that most women my age, most of whom are now moms, wince at the term (we remember!).
However, I’m going to be your beacon of crop-topping hope, today, by saying, this new wave of crop tops isn’t scary at all! They’re boxier, flowier; they vary in length (lots of options!), they’re paired with high-waists, or can be layered. Mainly, they just provide a fun, new silhouette and proportion – that’s all. No scary/skanky tummy-baring necessary. Trust me, I think we’ve seen enough navel from the late 90s and early 2000s to last us the rest of our dear lifetimes, so let’s just keep those sweet buttons covered, mmkay? Mmkay. Not scary at all.
