I can’t believe season four is over, already!! How did this happen?! Sundays just won’t be quite the same for a while… womp, womp. I know there are critics out there that have complained about how boring the finale was, but I, personally, do not watch Downton for cliff-hangers, sudden twists, or suspense. I purely enjoy just watching the characters interact and go about their daily business. There is an ease, fluidness, and beauty to the story and pace of Downton that actually makes me physically relax while watching it – it’s my happy place!
How did we like the finery in this final episode? Gorge.Ous, right? I felt it fitting to end this season with a modern version of Lady Rose’s stunning Debutante ball gown. Honestly? The dresses that sashayed and waltzed through the Downton finale were farrrrr more beautiful and interesting than what “modern” British and American young ladies seem to be presently wearing to Debutante Balls. Sheesh! The dress code these days for those things seems to be “Cheap Bridal Gown” or “Mother-of-the-Bride,” and I’m positive there must also be a requirement for accessories and shoes to be as conservatively boring as possible. Bleck. So, I took a cue from Parisian debs (shouldn’t we just always do that?), and decided to amp it up a touch. I put together a deb look that is very lady, but definitely has a rebel-rocker edge – something I think our Lady Rose would adore….
Sigh. Winter 2015 is a very long time to wait until we see our Downton friends, again (and until I can return to my happy place), but it could be worse – like, no 5th season at all! It’s been really fun, my lovely Downton groupies! I’m looking forward to sharing the next beautiful season with you. :)
Cheerio!
