What an amazing night last night!!! Ellen killed it (no surprise) in the hosting department, and there was no shortage of stunning dresses that sashayed and shimmered down the red carpet – just a fantastic night all the way around in our book! With so many stars bringing some serious A-game last night, it was really hard for Carrie M, Haley, and I to each choose just two of our favorites, so some of us may have cheated (okay, I did).
Here are our picks for Best & Worst Dressed.
Carrie J’s Picks:
I fell in love with so many red carpet looks last night, and was having anxiety about narrowing them down, so I decided to list my four best-dressed picks, and zero worst-dressed – I’m always breaking the rules! I’m so naughty like that.
Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
Lupita can do no wrong these days. She is the hottest “It Girl” I may have ever seen! This gown needs no description – it’s absolutely stunning on her. And it was perfectly accessorized from the sweet headband, the edgy, but simple, ear cuffs, the serpentine bracelet, and the RINGS!! Loooved the statement pinky ring stacked with a small frog ring that she said represents her family’s totem. When interviewed by E! Entertainment, Lupita said she loved the pale blue color of the dress because, “It’s a blue that reminds me of Nairobi. It’s a little bit of home.” A head-to-toe look as gorgeous as this, that is also backed by a special story and sentiment, AND had a beautiful, well-deserved Oscar accessory added to it later that night, just can’t be beat.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Does Charlize ever age?! How exquisitely perfect does she look in this mermaid-vixen look? The cut and fit of the dress on her is pristine, and the streamlined accessories are perfection. Perfect look.
Olivia Wilde in Valentino
How sweet are these photos?! Olivia could not look any more gorgeous than she did last night, sporting that beautiful, precious baby bump. She absolutely glowed. She has my vote for best hair and makeup, too! That cat-eye is perfection, and the soft, yet lovely up-do, complemented her face, and overall look, beautifully. Her Lorraine Schwartz jewels were perfectly selected and placed, as well – not too fussy, but definitely high-glam all the way. I loved how this beautiful mum-to-be said in her interview with E! Entertainment, “We’re wearing Valentino.” :)
Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
Oooooooo how Kate sizzzzzled in this Versace gown. The intricate beading, the exquisite draping, topped with the gorgeous cape detail, all spelled, “Best Dressed” to me. When Kate presented, she removed the cape, and looked as stunning and sultry as ever. Her makeup, jewels, and Old Hollywood hair completed her look, beautifully. She rocked that look out. All of these ladies did – such a fabulous, inspiring night from start to finish! Brava!
Carrie M’s Picks:
The Oscars. Hands down my favorite night in Hollywood. Everyone brings their A-game. And, I LOVED what I saw. It was HARD to pick just two favorites!! So, without further ado..
Best Dressed: Camilla Alves
I actually gasp when I saw Camilla walking the carpet in this flowey, blush toned gown. It’s just perfection in my book. There were so many pastels walking the carpet, but this one totally stood out with it’s unique silhouette . I love this beautiful color for her skin tone and the minimal accessories. She let the dress do the talking- and I loved what it had to say.
Runner Up for Best Dressed: Jennifer Lawrence
The dress. The necklace. The hair. The end. This Dior Haute Couture gown with peplum detail is so gorgeous. Lets just call it- red is her color.
Worst Dressed: Liza Minnelli

Wow, Liza. I will hand it to her, though- she went bold. You couldn’t miss her, thats for sure.
Runner Up for Worst Dressed: Penelope Cruz
Ok, I don’t hate this dress. I just don’t love it. It’s a whole lot of fabric for such a small, little figure. She just seems a little lost in it. White gowns are hard for me. They can go “bad wedding dress” reeeeeally quickly…
Hair and Makeup:
Since it’s also “Makeup Monday” I had to include a couple of my favorite hair and makeup moments from the carpet.

Lupita is just STUNNING. She does no wrong. I am loving her headband!! I see a trend in the making. :) And, let’s not forget the red lips.
I am obsessed with this look. Her hair is just absolute perfection and just makes her whole look. It just adds an “edge” to that beautiful, beaded gown. Not too fussy. Just casual, and undone. Such a breath of fresh air. And, again, the red lips.
xo- Carrie M
TWO PICKS? I CAN ONLY CHOOSE TWO!? This Oscar night was so much for me this year, between the jaw-dropping gowns, Ellen being hilarious, and Twitter being even more laughable – I must say I actually am sad the evening has ended. But of course, the whole night is really, most importantly about those dresses!
Lupita, because duh.
I don’t even think words are needed for this woman. She’s been the red-carpet front runner this entire awards season. A star is born. Now everyone wants you, Lu.
I’ve always fantasized about the mermaid dress for myself. I’m a girl with hips and a dress like this would make them go BAM. Which is exactly what this gown did for Charlize. The plunge of the neckline, the tail, and striated fabric all came together flawlessly, and made an enormous statement on the carpet and on the stage.
Best Dressed Boys
Jared “the prettiest” Leto
Lots of Saint Laurent on the carpet tonight, folks. Leto did this spunky look justice. A red bow tie can look kitchsy, but it didn’t. Maybe his ombre is so darn good and magical that anything fashion-wise is attainable for him. White-on-white, with a tuxedo stripe pant stood out well amongst the rest of the penguin suits.
Mr. Spacey is on fire. His commanding senatorial stance has only made me love him more off-screen. Even now, I’m watching him on Kimmel and he’s doing a killer Johnny Carson impression, in a beautiful Burberry tux, no less. The Hoovers are loving this blue-tux business right now.
Alright already with the cutouts, Kendrick.
Pharrell and wife, Helen Lasichanh
While I think it’s nice that they pushed the envelope together, these two were not cohesive in the least. Pharrell’s shorts and her long legs and pants made him look like a little boy running around with his babysitter. Not a fan, Pharrell, but I don’t think you care.
Award season is over, but I’m all hyped up on inspiration! Sweet dreams tonight, for sure!
